next steps

If you are a backer, you will be receiving an email with instructions as soon as we are able to get those out. We should have those emails going out by the end of the day. You can find the key redemption instructions by clicking this text.

Dedicated Servers will be coming online shortly and we expect them to be available for tonight. We’ve got hosting available in Frankfurt, Sao Paulo, Toronto and Sydney to cover everyone adequately.

After that

We’ve given our website a bit of a facelift, and we’ve also opened up a new information page. We’ll be hosting a lot of our thoughts as developers on the information portal, and be frequently updating it as information changes. Once we’ve moved past the initial launch we will be starting nightly testing with our community as early as Monday next week.

common Questions regarding the release

Q: Is the game ready for early-access?

Absolutely, while it's not 100% exactly the same build that I wanted to release, we do have a release candidate build for both the client and the dedicated server that is playable. Is it bug free? Absolutely not.

That being said, for the first time in years, as developers, we have a lot of fun playing the game keeping in mind how much work still has to be done on the project.

Q: I see my old keys in the website?

You may need to clear your browser cache which is without a doubt the easiest way to address this.

Q: My keys say “Closed Alpha” on the website?

This is a visual bug, we’re going to be rectifying this once we’ve got the time on our hands to fix it up.

Q: I need help, where can I get help?

You can always email us via support@qisoftware.ca for assistance with redemption, configuring your game copy, etc.

Q: Wasn’t this game supposed to come out at the end of August?

Yes, we were being a little too ambitious with our release projections. There was tremendous technical difficulties we were encountering while also trying to put out various fires. This is why we pivoted to saying as little as possible until we knew that 100% it would be in the bag.

Q: Why is the price of the game $39.99 when the game is in Early Access?

We are currently aiming to cultivate a smaller but more dedicated community as we continue to work on the project, building an open world zombie survival game is incredibly difficult and capital intensive process.

Dead Matter will eventually become more expensive as time goes on, this is to preserve the integrity of the gameplay while also ensuring we have the funds we need to maintain studio operations.

It is important to note that we have very little desire to milk money out of people via skins and cosmetics. Higher initial price points allow us to keep those features away from the game while also ensuring that we have the funds we need for development.

Performance Concerns

There’s no doubt that we’ve been pushing this release to the wire, some performance concerns involving collision did pop up last night, we’re working diligently to get this addressed over the weekend. We’re aware of what the root cause is and roughly the time it was introduced.

Anyone that played the Closed Alpha before the third week or so of August and afterwards can confirm that this cropped up recently, and we will deal with it swiftly.

Dedicated server performance has already been addressed and they should be running a bit better, but we’ll have to make sure we do a clean sweep through our profiling data over the weekend to make sure this is resolved as soon as possible. We appreciate peoples understanding and patience on this one.

Stay Safe,

The QI Team.
